Lesson 4 :: Space and Line notes on Treble Clef

 

We have discussed about space and line notes on lesson 2. Now we are going to name those space and line notes. Before we proceed we should know about ‘clef’. There are several types of clefs available for different range of instruments, which we will discuss later. In this lesson we only discuss about the most used ‘Treble Clef’ or ‘G clef’.

You can easily memorize the space notes with the word FACE.

Leger lines


A ledger line or leger line is musical notation to inscribe notes outside the lines and spaces of the regular musical staffs. A line slightly longer than the note is drawn parallel to the staff, above or below, spaced at the same distances as the notes within the staff


Above and Below the Staff


The basic staff describes nine basic notes - five on the lines, four in the spaces. But what about all those notes either above or below these nine. Notes higher than the F at the top of the staff are written in the ledger lines and spaces above the staff.  You can understand this in the following figure:
